When Stalking is a Viable Networking Strategy
We all know about six degrees of separation - if you’re on LinkedIn, you’ll know more about it than most because you’ll see invitations coming through you to be introduced to friends of friends. When you need to find someone that can help you in your business, from startup to cash flow, you may already know the person you need to be talking to…through someone you already know.
Examine Your Business Cards
Take a few minutes and go through the people you know. Who do they know? Do you know? Call a few of the contacts you’re closer to and ask them if they know someone that does what you’re looking for. Before you decide to hunt your prey you need to make sure there’s not an antelope in your backyard!
Be Sure Your Pitch is Solid
If you decide that you do not, in fact, have an antelope in your backyard you need to be absolutely certain if you run into the person you’re looking for you know what you’re going to say. Do not blindly research where your potential customers network, and then just show up and hope for the best. Do research, make sure your pitch is solid.
Above all, make sure you have more than just a pitch. Be willing to get to know the people you want to work with so they can make a real connection with you, not just be on the other end of you talking about your business for 30 seconds. That will not yield the success, and once you’ve put the time and effort into researching where to find people, you want to make your impressions and conversations count.
