What Happens if You’re Sitting Next to the Hecklers?

by Jennifer Gniadecki on June 3rd, 2008

Continuing our series of “What happens if you’re sitting next to…..” detailing what kinds of people you end up sitting with at a networking event, and what to do about it.

The Hecklers

These are the folks that think the speaker doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

They will point out flaws in the presentation, the speaker’s clothes, possibly even going for the personal jab and calling them unattractive or downright ugly. They may make loud under-the-breath comments that are an attempt to distract the speaker during the talk, or ask oversimplified questions in an attempt to act like the speaker doesn’t know more and would not be able to answer a more complex question.

The hecklers are not people you want to network with extensively. They are not well liked, and generally they tend to be jealous people in general. No matter how close you become to a heckler, when you have your moment in the sun, they will not be happy for you. Only critical.
