The Ditcher

by Jennifer Gniadecki on May 30th, 2008

There are five networking faux pas highlighted in this 39 second video:

  1. She ditched someone she just met.
  2. She insulted the person she is introducing the interior designer to.
  3. She made the I can’t be bothered to remember all this face when she explained what the new person does to the referral.
  4. She told the person she just met to discount her services for the referral.
  5. She thinks she just referred business to the person she just met.

The ditcher is one of the worst people in networking, because they think they’re an expert. Because they’ve introduced themselves to everyone in the room, it makes them feel they know everyone in the room. Insulting someone as you introduce them to someone else as a potential referral is low-class and mean.

If you encounter the ditcher, you won’t know until it’s too late. Try not to worry too much about it, and never refer business to him/her. They won’t appreciate it, they’ll think it came to them because of their extraordinary networking skills.
