No One Cares if You’re Poor, Fat, or Ugly
Mmmmm…inferiority issues…
- You think the pretty girl has an easier life.
- The handsome guy must have girls fawning over him.
- The speaker at the event knows so much more than you and you’ll never be that successful.
While we all have moments of stupidity inferiority that make us feel someone else has an edge, these should be fleeting and tromped down heartily with much self-love as soon as possible.
That’s because the more time you spend assuming someone won an imagined contest in your head (popularity, intelligence, looks) they are more successful. What people want to hear is ideas, they don’t want you stepping to them with some Eeyore shtick of self-deprecation.
Don’t draw attention to your tattered suit, the roots you need to get touched up, or your crappy home-printed business cards. You are who you are and you can’t change it for the moment. Being who you are and sharing what you know - that emotional connection will trump ugly business cards, a stain on your tie, and almost anything else.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned being crazy about networking, it’s that you shouldn’t treat other people as if they are amazing vessels of knowledge that will save your life and your business if you listen closely enough. No one can handle that kind of pressure, and they don’t want that kind of responsibility for your life and success - they just met you!
