Finding a Job in This Economy

by Jennifer Gniadecki on June 19th, 2008

Over at Interview Chatter there is a great post about the job seeker, the economy, and social networking.

Because it is one of the best ways to find the right job for you in the tight job market today.

While that is probably my favorite line in her post, I recommend reading the whole thing for maximum effectiveness.

Submitting a faceless, personality-free resume on job board sites isn’t enough anymore. You have to actively participate in the job hunt process. While it might feel like writing the resume, and making sure there are no typos, and checking to see that everything you did at your last job is puffed up enough to make you sound awesome is active participation, it isn’t enough.

For a job you might actually love, effort will be necessary that you probably have never put forth before in a job hunt. Being yourself, knowing your boundaries, talking to strangers. These are all things that can put you ahead of others that are looking for the same job.

Also, once you begin networking and getting to know people, there are the friend of a friend connections you wouldn’t have had otherwise.

All in all, social networking is very important for the job hunter. More than most people think…and when you’re ahead of what most people think, you are in a great position!
